Q&A with Jordan Younger of The Balanced Blonde
Jordan Younger was one of the first wellness bloggers I followed, so getting the opportunity to interview her was an absolute dream (*pinches self*). She's extremely relatable, and detailed her struggles with anorexia and orthorexia in her book, Breaking Vegan. She has an incredible podcast, Soul on Fire, where she interviews key leaders in the wellness industry. Jordan lives in LA with her adorable kitty, Hudson.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Well... my name is Jordan and I have the raddest job of blogging, podcasting, writing, and researching wellness trends & holistic healing treatments full-time. It's a blast. I started my blog almost five years ago and it's evolved into a brand that I love waking up to dive into every day. I also teach yoga, lead retreats, and DO a lot of yoga myself. Meditation and kundalini keep me sane. I'm a chronic overcommitter so... I'm working on that. 2018 is my year to keep on slowing down and tuning in.
What was the inspiration behind The Balanced Blonde?
To share my wellness obsession with the world, and more importantly with people who care about it as much as I do. I started my blog back in the day as a vegan food blog, publicly transitioned from veganism to a more "balanced" way of life, and blogged about my eating disorder recovery in the process. It's been cool to watch it come full circle as I am now blogging about food again, but in a much more "do you" kind of way. I am so passionate about giving people (women especially, but everyone) the tools to live THEIR healthiest life and feel empowered doing so. I am also a diehard spa treatment / holistic healing treatment kind of gal so... I do a lot of that, and I love sharing that side of wellness on The Balanced Blonde.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to start their own brand/business?
BE RIDICULOUSLY PASSIONATE about your subject. If you're not, you will not be on the vibration that will be necessary to drive your business forward and create something lasting and sustainable. If the passion is there, you will no doubt put in the hours, the love, the effort, the research, the grit, and more to make your business / brand everything you dream it to be. If you can see it, it will happen. Keep on persisting, and have patience because true growth comes slowly but surely.
What do you love most about your job?
The FLEXIBILITY and the creative outlet. I get to do something different every day which really works for my personality, and share on a spiritual / soul level with people who are truly awesome (my readers / listeners).
What do you love most about yourself?
My creative mind, spirituality, and compassion. I feel like I have lived many lifetimes and feel very in touch with the earth, nature, people, words, sharing. Compassion for others is huge for me.
Take us through a day in the life of Jordan. We want all the deets!
Every day is so different! I always have my self-care routine in the morning, a cup of dandelion tea (it used to be Bulletproof coffee but I'm on a coffee break!), I meditate, do kundalini, some yoga stretches, etc. Then I either sit down to write, meet someone for a photo shoot, interview a rad podcast guest, go on a hike to immerse myself in nature, the list goes on. I try to end my workday by about 6pm to wind down in the evenings with yoga, making dinner, and lots of snuggle time with my love and my Huddy (my cat!).
What's on the horizon for you in 2018?
So much! I will be traveling a lot... Cancun, Bali, Kauai, and New York are on the list so far. I have a lot of exciting projects in the works and now it looks like I will be taking some herbalism courses to learn more about healing from the inside out. A lot of personal healing for me this year too.
And lastly, what makes you feel like a kween?
Being with the love of my life.
